Snow Letter(2008)Snowletter emerged during a residency at the Dachstein glacier in Styria, Austria. The area is very highly frequented by ski and hiking tourists throughout the whole year and thereby gets increasingly polluted. Accordingly, my mere presence on the glacier was also a contribution to its further destruction. The »letter« was installed within eyespot from the restaurant in the mountain station of the Dachstein cable car and close to a ski piste for six hours an April 1st 2008. The writing was facing away from the spectators there, being exposedto the surrounding mountains and the skies. A worded foil was fixed on the surface of the snow; under the black letters the snow melted down about 5 cm. This way an engraving emerged which remained visible until late in the evening. |
