In 1998 I collected "samples" from a variety of abandoned or decaying buildings in Liverpool. These samples included mainly fragments of bricks but also pieces of plaster, wood, concrete metal and glass. This collection was extended ten years later by similar material taken from disused buildings made with precast concrete slabs in the eastern part of Berlin. The individual samples were ground down and screened in several layers onto 80 x 60 cm wooden boards coated with acrylic medium.
